  MusE 2.0.1 and midi sync

Hi, I am using the 2.0.1 version on avlinux and I'm trying to make muse sync with midi clock but it seems MusE does not respond.In the ports muse shows clock activity but, nothing!Is it a bug?

  Muse2 2.1.1 Segfaults

I am the maintainer of AV Linux and am trying to build updated packages for Muse2 to be included on the next ISO, I have built and packaged Muse2 previously with no issues however for some reason 2.1.1 is giving me segfaults. I am certain all dependencies are present and the compilation and packaging steps all go without a hitch. When I go to run Muse2 I get the splash screen and shortly after the program segfaults and terminates. I am using ccmake to do the builds (which has worked previously) and the only change I'm making is to change the install prefix to /usr. I will confess to being less familiar with Muse2 then the numerous other sequencers included in AV Linux but I'm hoping I've just missed something obvious somewhere along the line..

For now all I have is this terminal output, please advise what you suggest for how to better investigate, I have used gdb but not recently and my debugging skills are a bit rusty..

*Note - I am aware that I should have rtc permissions, this is just from a development build machine.

  Getting drums to work

I'm using Muse 2.1 on UbuntuStudio 12.10 with KXstudio. Card is UA-25ex.

I've tried creating songs with the synths included in the package, and tracks created with MIDI for, say, piano, work.

But drum tracks don't work even though I've tried a few things:

I've looked for manuals for SimpleDrums and can't find any. Googling for pictures I saw that in the fields I had to include WAV files, and did that. Now I hear a click but not the sounds. The WAV files sound good on their own.

I've tried creating a song with percussion, new drums, old drums -- in all cases I can fill some dots where the sounds should be, but I get no sound.

It's clear I'm a newbie regarding MIDI. Audio works just fine. Piano etc I get them to work. But not percussion, specifically. I've looked for tutorials and found none.

Please help?

I've finished one more project with MusE, this one has 10 songs. It's a pop-rock album, soon it will be uploaded on bandcamp. (I will submit the link later.)
Here are my impressions while using MusE as audio and MIDI sequencer on Ubuntu Studio 12.04:



- bug with arranger window not maximized when reopen the project
- occasional crash when working in wave editor
- wave editor > gain > other : does opposite, or I am in the wrong?
- drum editor: f shortcut is not working
- occasional MusE crash on effects dragging/duplicating (DSSI Calf plugins)
- doesn't show native GUI for some effect instance (DSSI), it just hangs for a while, plain GUI is shown. After restart it is normal again, sometimes it is not. (Calf plugins)



- opening DSSI effect GUI (latest calf) interrupts playback for ~0.5s leaving Xrun - (more severe than 2.0.1)
- presing save while playing makes xrun and interrupts play - (more severe than 2.0.1, using JACK1)

Wishlist (from 2.0.1)

- lv2 support
- connection popup window to be persistent, like in MusE 1.1, allowing to select multiple ports before window closes
- hand tool for horizontal scroll (middle button shortcut would be nice)
- Zoom at playhead or at mouse cursor - **cool I saw that you have already did that <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->
- cut at playhead selected track/part - using scissors is not precise, audio parts need this
- automatic color change of midi parts when changed
- exponential fade - (some how linear fades out quickly) - here I'm refering on automation of the faders, It's needed to manualy add more points
- possibility to refine selection points in wave editor - something like in Audacity
- "dirty bit" in tittle
- mixer faders save positions
- mixer fader groups
- drum editor: show velocity while audition clicking on list in left pane
- arranger: duplicate tracks - with all audio or MIDI parts and effects - **cool I saw that you have already did that <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->
- number indicator on maximum reached signal level in mixer not just a line on VU meter
- trim audio parts both form start and end, (now only from end is possible)

Overall, MusE is quite stable, useable and sounds good. Only few crashes (while draging effects form one track to another in mixer, and while working in wave editor). Most annoying thing was zoom - because origin point was at begining, connecting ports - because window closes on first click, horizontal scroll - a could really use "handtool" to pan left-right. Another problems I had on start up is that it crashed standalone applications which had MIDI connections (Guitarix, I was trying to use MIDI programs to set the Guitarix patches). That is all I can remembre now, I was working on project since summer.

I would like to thank the devlopers for makeing a good and trusty audio and MIDI sequencer - thanks!

i would like to know what makes MUse unique compared to other softwares?

the benefits of muse has to its customers (the users)?

I have looked everywhere I can think of for a basic "how to" file for Muse. Is there any info designed for musicians instead of computer programers? Just need to be able to handle normal musical things like polishing dynamics and balance. Can't find anyway to even select the measures that I want to work with.

I don't need installation or compile instructions - just how to manipulate music in Muse. If the manul covers this sort of thing, I have not been able to find it.

  Time signature stuck at 100/128

I think i have tried everything. The time signature is stuck at 100/128 and i cant get it back to reasonable values. The signature in the saved xml file is correctly 4/4. This glitched time sig is only at this one project im working on. Help please <!-- sSad --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt="Sad" title="Sad" /><!-- sSad -->

  How to expand a midi track

I am trying to migrate away from Windows to the Linux world. Things are going well. The final frontier seems to be the real time applications. I have used various sequencers/daws in Windows, so I have some background with midi and digital audio. I installed Muse several days ago, and so far I am impressed with the midi, though I have more testing to do.

Here is where I am hoping to get some help:
I am recording midi from an external hardware sequencer. I am able to record my song to a midi track OK in Muse. The resulting Track 1 contains 8 channels of midi data. I want to move (or copy, or expand) the data for each channel to it's own track. (Chan9 to track 9, Chan10 to track 10, etc.) What is the easiest way in Muse to do this? I am using Muse 2.0~rc2.

We've tried hard to break tradition and release somewhat quicker than what we usually been able to.
