Posted by: dougstewart - 12-21-2013, 01:48 AM - Forum: Getting Help - Replies (2)

I have 2 midi keyboards and would like to record from them both at the same time, but as two different chanels on the screen.
Right now they both go on both chanels.

  Project crashing MusE when loading
Posted by: d-sweaters - 11-21-2013, 03:56 PM - Forum: Getting Help - Replies (20)

I was using Muse for about the past 5 hours, was having a great time, loving how things were sounding. Took a break to watch a movie, then now my saved project will not open and crashes while loading. :\ I've tried starting muse with no audio, ladspa/DSSI disabled and just about every other option I could find under the -h flag, and still just crashes just when the whole project seems to load. All the other projects I've made in it so far open and close fine. I'd love to get all my work back on this track. I think I know WHY the problem started. Durring adding a keyboad track while I was still in the session, I unplugged my midi cable because it can cause some noise on the audio input. This seemed to cause some x-runs in jack, so I plugged it back in. It definitely seems to be related to the midi ports from reading the consol output and jack messages. I've attached the project file. I hope somebody can help me get this working again, I really don't want to loose all of that work.

  Please vote! Forum, Mailing list and community consideration
Posted by: flo93 - 11-04-2013, 10:28 AM - Forum: - No Replies

Dear MusE-User-Community!

This is going to be a long mail about certain decisions which should
be done by the community. I ask each of you to fully read and reply to
this mail. Please do, because it's important that YOUR opinion gets
represented!

In the past, not many visible things were done to MusE, unfortunately.
However behind the scenes, Joachim and me did some work to fully
migrate the whole MusE Website, Mailinglists and Forum to a new webserver.

Around 6 weeks before, I announced that I want to completely move away
from the SourceForge.net platform, and I think that we are ready for
the last step now: Moving the Mailing list and the Forum. These two
are the only services that still are on SF.

Hosting this stuff on our own gives us extended abilities, which I'd
like to actually use; however, before changing such things, I'd like
to hear your opinion on it first.

I will now speak about several topics:

1. Forum vs. Mailing list
2. Fighting spam and moderation
3. Handling the ML archive
4. Can you/Do you want to help developing MusE?

1. Forum vs Mailing list
=========================

I have never liked the idea of a separated forum and mailing list,
because it creates two split sub-communities with few or no
intersection. Therefore, I either want to abandon one of these, or
"join" the forum and the Mailing List using a bi-directional bridge:
Everything posted to lmuse-user shows up in the forum, and every forum
posting is sent to the lmuse-user ML.
Multiple mailing lists could be used for mapping multiple subforums.

My idea was the following:

- - Import the old forum
- - Bridge the "Getting Help" subforum to lmuse-user
- - Do not bridge the "Random discussion" subforum, OR
bridge it to a different ML.
- - Add a new subforum: Musical project announcements.
This subforum is the place for posting your half- or fully
finished compositions, if you want to share them.
I hope that this will with your help quickly become a
decent showcase for the full power of MusE <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
(not bridged, or bridged to another ML, at your option)
- - Add a new subforum: Developer's corner. This is just the
lmuse-developer mailing list, for added transparency

What's your opinion?

a) Drop the ML, have only a forum
b) Drop the forum, have only a ML (i dislike this idea, because
forums are much more attractive for newbies)
c) Join them like described above.

2. Fighting spam and Moderation
===============================

We want to get rid of all the spam on the Mailing list (and also,
keeping a forum spam-free is non-trivial) by using a SpamAssassin filter.
The eternal problem with spam filtering is: no filter has a 100% hit
rate, SpamAssassin sometimes feels unsure about a mail. Such mail is
put into the mailing list moderation queue.
Also, mail from all newly registered users is "quarantined" in the
moderation queue, until a moderator decides that the user is a real
human and not a spambot.

But then, it must be ensured that some moderator checks the moderation
queue at least once a day! I'd like to ask all the active members of
lmuse-user or the forum: Would you like to help by being a moderator?
Can you regularly check the moderation queue and sort away some spam?

3. Handling the ML Archive
==========================

In case you vote for the "join forum and ML" option:
Do you wish to have the mailing list archive imported into the forum?
(I'm not sure if that's possible, though.)
Or do you rather not want this, and why?

4. Can you/Do you want to help developing MusE?
===============================================

I'm not sure how many people on lmuse-user have enough skills to develop
MusE, so i'd rather ask now:

Would you like to / Are you able to help with MusE development in any
way, e.g.:

- - Write some audio code
- - Do some software architecture
- - Write some GUI code
- - Design the GUI, without having to program it, e.g. in qt-designer

especially the last one is important: If some of you could design the
User Interface in a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get tool like qt-designer,
this would greatly help us creating intuitive and ergonomic user
interfaces.

Listen, I am a system programmer. I am good at doing clean software
architecture, and at writing non-interactive programs "which just do
their job" (such as the audio backend in MusE, e.g.). But I suck
horribly at designing User Interfaces, it usually becomes ugly AND
non-intuitive, because I model it after how it works internally, not
how a human would think <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

I admit that currently, there's few UI done with qt-designer. But if
we have the incentive to receive help from you, we will turn towards
GUI being qt-designer only <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Phew, that's it <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

So please answer the following, and help making MusE's community a
little bit more awesome:

1. a) Drop the ML, have only a forum
b) Drop the forum, have only a ML (I dislike this idea, because
forums are much more attractive for newbies)
c) Join them like described above.

2. Would you volunteer to be a moderator for forum or ML?

3. Import the ML archive into the forum?

4. Can you help developing, e.g. by doing GUI-designing?

Deadline for replies will be on Monday, 2013-11-18. I have
cross-posted this on the mailing list, please don't double-reply if you read
both forum and ML; pick one <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->
(Just post your reply, no "poll" for this poll <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->)

Thank you and greetings,

  Update translation into Russian
Posted by: alex54m - 09-17-2013, 02:04 PM - Forum: Getting Help - No Replies

hi all <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->
I made update of my previous translation now for MusE 2.1.2. <!-- sBig Grin --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" title="Very Happy" /><!-- sBig Grin -->
link for ru.ts file is <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fayloobmennik.net/3193071">http://www.fayloobmennik.net/3193071</a><!-- m -->
By the nature of my activity I am the theatrical composer and I write soundtracks to theatrical performances. Generally I use the Cubase program, but there are also some soundtracks written by means of MusE.
If it is interesting, here the link: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fayloobmennik.net/3193155">http://www.fayloobmennik.net/3193155</a><!-- m -->
Taking an opportunity I state the short wishlist:
1. Arranger and pianoroll navigation. Now, if to place the mouse pointer to window edge, the screen moves, but too slowly. Is it possible to provide increase in speed if the user continues to hold or to move the pointer in the same direction? It would be very convenient.
2. Editing notes under pianoroll. To change the size of a notes, it would be desirable to use only one tool, I mean "selection tool" and to have possibility to move separately start time, end time and note as a whole. Also all this for group note editing.
3. It would be very good to have scissors and glue into pianoroll

Alex

  Export wav track
Posted by: janhovorka - 05-30-2013, 07:39 AM - Forum: Getting Help - Replies (1)

Hello,
is there some easy way how to export each wave track into a single wav file?
I need "aligned" wav files (of the same length) one per each track. My tracks consist of more than one part and these parts usually do not start at time "0".

Thanks for answer.

  DeicsOnze resetting instrument selection?
Posted by: slickness21 - 05-20-2013, 12:48 AM - Forum: Getting Help - Replies (3)

Hey so I have muse: Linux Music Editor; Version 2.0~rc2, (svn revision 0)
and when I try to select a preset in DeicsOnze such as Precussion->drum->bassDrum and then play notes in the piano roll it automatically switches back to the first preset Orchestra->Orchestra->EleOrchtra

I have a small loop with a few notes on a track. I get sound and sometimes I get the sound of the preset I choose but as soon as it returns to the start of the loop it reverts back to the first preset.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong??

Edit--------
Some additional info...
So on the track info pane there is a "?"
When I click it I get a bunch of different selections. Here as well I can choose a sound and play it until the end of the loop. Then switches back to default. The ? is always there no matter what I choose

  Muse2 2.1.1 Segfaults
Posted by: gmaq - 02-21-2013, 03:30 PM - Forum: Getting Help - Replies (8)

Hi,

I am the maintainer of AV Linux and am trying to build updated packages for Muse2 to be included on the next ISO, I have built and packaged Muse2 previously with no issues however for some reason 2.1.1 is giving me segfaults. I am certain all dependencies are present and the compilation and packaging steps all go without a hitch. When I go to run Muse2 I get the splash screen and shortly after the program segfaults and terminates. I am using ccmake to do the builds (which has worked previously) and the only change I'm making is to change the install prefix to /usr. I will confess to being less familiar with Muse2 then the numerous other sequencers included in AV Linux but I'm hoping I've just missed something obvious somewhere along the line..

For now all I have is this terminal output, please advise what you suggest for how to better investigate, I have used gdb but not recently and my debugging skills are a bit rusty..

*Note - I am aware that I should have rtc permissions, this is just from a development build machine.

  Getting drums to work
Posted by: lucasgsc - 02-16-2013, 12:25 AM - Forum: Getting Help - Replies (8)

I'm using Muse 2.1 on UbuntuStudio 12.10 with KXstudio. Card is UA-25ex.

I've tried creating songs with the synths included in the package, and tracks created with MIDI for, say, piano, work.

But drum tracks don't work even though I've tried a few things:

I've looked for manuals for SimpleDrums and can't find any. Googling for pictures I saw that in the fields I had to include WAV files, and did that. Now I hear a click but not the sounds. The WAV files sound good on their own.

I've tried creating a song with percussion, new drums, old drums -- in all cases I can fill some dots where the sounds should be, but I get no sound.

It's clear I'm a newbie regarding MIDI. Audio works just fine. Piano etc I get them to work. But not percussion, specifically. I've looked for tutorials and found none.

Please help?

Thanks!
